CANCELLATIONS AND MAKE-UP CLASSES

Note that all gyms will be closed for March break and statutory holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Good Friday, Easter and Victoria Day. Should any unforeseen cancellations occur, coaches will notify all gymnasts and parents immediately. On such occasions, your coach will arrange either to have classes re-scheduled, or made up at another Kalev location.

UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT

Our athletes wear black sleeveless leotards and black tights. The leotards are not required at the first class (shorts and T-shirt will do) but should be purchased shortly thereafter.
Rhythmic gymnastics apparatus are available at each of our centres, but can also be purchased through the club (ball, hoop, ribbon). Your coach will advise what items are needed and help coordinate the colours.

CAMPS

During school breaks, Kalev offers training camps at several of our training centres. Information will be made available to you through your coach.

PERFORMANCES

All Kalev students have a minimun of three performances each year. The main one is the spring show case at a theater in Toronto. There are also Parents' Night performances at the end of each term. Towards the end of the season, there is also a friendship competition, the Kalev Cup, where most groups participate and compete for medals and ribbons. In addition, many groups perform in the community at various events.

FUND-RAISING

In spite of the fact that our sport, like many, has been affected by government cutbacks and is no longer funded, our fees are kept at a reasonable level. There is, however, a need for on-going fund-raising efforts to help offset the costs of maintaining and updating our training centres. Our main fund-raising event is the annual Spring Show, to which we hope all gymnasts will sell tickets. So please bring every parent, grand-parent, cousin, neighbour, classmate and anyone else you can think of to this event! It will benefit your daughter and her training.

KALEV BY-LAWS

It is important for all gymnasts to follow the rules, because they are there for the safety of all:
- no chewing gum or wearing jewelry in class
- never leave valuables or money in the change room
- bare feet or soft dance or gym shoes for training
- hair should always be kept back from the face and neck either with clips or in a ponytail
- out-door shoes to be removed at the front entrance
- never bring any food or drinks (other than water) to training.

Visitors are also reminded to remove their shoes at the front entrance!

Although we allow parents to stay in the gym for the very first lesson, especially if the child is very young or shy, the rule is: no parent in the gym during class! The gymnasts need to focus on the coach and their activities. They will be able to show mom and dad what they have learned at the end of each term, at the Parents' Night.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Kalev issues several newsletters to all members during the year. In addition, coaches continually keep their gymnasts and parents up-to-date regarding club issues and upcoming events.
